This detail shows the requirements for a hot mix asphalt deep dig pavement patch. It includes the requirements for 3 to 5 inches of asphalt pavement (3” minimum matching existing up to 5 inches maximum) over 6 inches of compacted base course over two feet of stabilization material and fabric. It includes requirements for saw cutting the limits of the area of the patch as well as applying tack coat before installation of the asphalt. It requires the contractor to compact the base material and asphalt material to a specified percentage of maximum of ASTM D-1557. The detail allows the contractor to use Marshall Mix Design, Performance Grade (PG) or Performance Based Asphalt (PBA) as the binder material for the patch and specifies a ½” maximum sized aggregate used in the asphaltic pavement patch mix.
The detail also specifies the amount and type of ground stabilization as well as allowable geotextile fabrics.
